She bit her tongue, fighting off the urge to snap ‘can i have five minutes alone, please?’ as she so desperately wanted to. She did her best to adjust well, to adjust as Joanna had - but 500 years was 500 years - and sometimes all the new technology and clothing and music…it was too much to handle.
“Taking the most minimal of breathers.” she promised, forcing a smile onto her features. It wasn’t his fault after all. If anything, he made things easier. There was not one bone with a bad intention in his body. She loved that, but it made her moments of over stimulation fill her with even more guilt.
He won’t try to pry open her mind, look inside and poke around to get some sort of semblance of what’s got it working overtime, he had an intuitive grasp of the truth with no more than a simple look. Almost like he knew better than to badger her with pointless questions she doesn’t want him to ask cause chances are, she hasn’t found the right words that might make him understand. 500 years is a pretty long stretch and try as he might— he maynever grasp even a fraction of the sacrifices she and Joanna had to take in order to be sitting here with them. It wasn’t like a weekend trip to visit his mom’s side of the family in Hawaii, it’s a
different ball game
altogether with not only a time and culture clash but social class differences up the wazoo on top of that.
A mixed bag of laughter and applause bounced off the beer posters on the wall reeled in his attention for a beat. He craned his head, his gaze seemingly affixed to a not so distant table where a crowd of young men and women such as their own two selves sat there, using the Stallyn’s almost earth-shattering success as an excuse to drink to their blissful’s heart content. They must have at least a bottle each, with some to spare, and if the way they’re falling about all over each other is anything to go by, they’ve already had more than enough.
